Ski Weekend in the Adirondacks

One of the great things about living on the east coast is that you can plan a quick weekend trip to the mountains which is only a few hours drive upstate. Our family loves to ski, so we booked a couples trip with my sister and brother-in law to the Adirondacks and had such a great time! We stayed in the cutest secluded cabin near Lake Placid which was only about 15 minutes from Whiteface mountain. This ski resort is home to US Olympic training and has the biggest vertical drop in the East!

Our first day on the mountain was 34 degrees and beautiful. I bought a one piece ski suit from SNO which was après chic but super warm – win win.  It’s hard to find a ski suit that is practical and cute, but this one was perfect.

The 2nd day we went all the way up to the tippy top of the mountain, and we were literally amongst the clouds. It was sub freezing and scary as shit. I’m a good skier but nothing can really prepare you for the black diamond trails here, so I stuck to mainly blues.

Our Airbnb cabin was the most relaxing retreat and we will definitely be coming back. It had a nice, open floor plan with an upstairs loft that overlooked the whole main floor. The cabin comfortably slept 10 which is great for large groups. We spent most of our time outside in the hot tub and sauna, which was much needed after a long day of skiing.

My brother in-law is a master chef and LOVES to cook/eat, so my diet definitely got derailed this weekend but it was certainly worth it. I’m hoping the 1500 calories I burned skiing cancelled out the lasagna we ate for breakfast/lunch/dinner.

On our last day we went to the Olympic Village and the only thing we regret was not staying longer! It was a really cute village with tons of boutiques, shops and restaurants. Pasquale got to choose where we ate dinner and he picked a spot called “Smoke Signals” which was arguably the best bbq food we’ve ever had- especially if you love juicy, oily fatty brisket served on a crispy baguette that soaks up the fatty umami meat juice that pours out the sides. If you’re ever in the area, go here it won’t disappoint.

All in all, it was a really nice weekend away with people I love and I can’t wait to book our next trip. We made a lot of new memories and THIS, is truly what life is all about.
